The short answer: because you're trying loose teas for the better flavor and there's no point in shooting yourself in the foot before you step out of your own front door.
The long answer:
1. Flavor - When given the maximum available room, tea leaves expand three to four times their dry volume. Confining them in a teaball prevents their full expansion as well as inhibits the water from circulating and stunts the release of flavor. Tea leaves need the most room possible and if you got a teaball large enough, it wouldn't fit into your cup, mug, or teapot.
2. Convenience and ease - With a strainer or brewing basket, all you have to do is dump in the tea. There's no precision aiming needed as in filling a teaball. Two hands aren't needed to fasten the sections together. There are no chains to rust, dangle, break, and slip down into the disposal. And, it's much easier to empty and rinse one piece than two wiggly connected parts.
3. Visual enjoyment - If a glass teapot is used, watching the leaves expand can be quite enjoyable which is impossible if a teaball is used.
4. Cleaner beverage - Not all teaballs are created equal and many don't have a mesh that's fine enough or, in the case of ceramic tea eggs, perforations small enough to prevent tea leaves from escaping into your brew. This, of course, will not be an issue for you as long as you don't mind picking off tea leaves from your lips and tongue.
5. You can save yourself money, time, and aggravation by foregoing teaballs and other similar devices in favor of a good strainer or brew basket.
